Josh Talks, in association with Facebook India, conducted a series of “Citizens’ Townhalls” across 15 states in India through the #MakeYourMark campaign. The Townhalls initiated a dialogue to impart civic responsibility and voter awareness amongst the citizens by sensitizing them on national issues.
It was organized across 15 states namely Delhi, Rajasthan, Telangana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Mizoram, Punjab, Goa, Kerala, Haryana and Maharashtra, Assam. To engage 40+ policy makers and social impact facilitators, 1600+ attendees and 6 Million online viewers across the nation. Thus, initiating conversations between first-time voters and Chief Electoral Officers, policymakers, NGOs and civic tech organizations of the states.
The campaign hashtag trended for 3+ hours nationally on Twitter, reached around 80000 people via Facebook, got mentioned on Chief Electoral Office pages of Meghalaya, Karnataka, Telangana, amongst several IAS officers and news channels covering it on their platforms.
In total the campaign was a huge success in terms of spreading voting awareness among youth. This can be put into perspective by 50000+ information requests for voter ID that it helped generate. Along with educating the young individuals on the importance of exercising their vote and the power and responsibility that comes upon each citizen, as a part of being in a democracy.
